This Report has only just been received, and I am not yet pre-

pared to make any recommendation in regard to the salaries

suggested in it, but if suitable men cannot be obtained at the

rates mentioned in the paper of particulars it would be well

to slightly increase the pay.

3. The original Estimate for salaries which was

made by Captain Rumsey appears to have been under-estimated,

and the Acting Harbour Master is of opinion that suitable men

cannot now be obtained at those figures,

4. It is necessary that the new Light-keepers

should arrive in the Colony in time to take charge of the

Lighthouse on the 1st. January, and I shall be obliged if you will cause the necessary steps to be taken accordingly.
